There are two ways to pump water with solar power. A VFD-based system pairs a solar pump inverter (drive) with a standard AC pump: the upfront cost is lower, and both the pump and its spare parts are widely available and serviceable locally — a practical choice for agricultural installations.

Integrated solar pump systems such as Lorentz or Grundfos combine a high-efficiency brushless DC motor, pump and controller engineered as one unit. They cost more, but deliver strong output in low light, proven reliability and a long service life. Both approaches run entirely without a grid connection; the right choice depends on your budget, water requirements and access to servicing.
